San Francisco Transportation - San Francisco is a rapidly growing city. Known as the “City by the Bay” – San Francisco is a wonderful place to visit and play. Ranked by Conde Nast Traveler as the #1 American City for twelve years in a row – San Francisco offers amazing bay scenery, stunning Victorian architecture, funky boutiques, amazing restaurants, great beaches and sights and sounds that will make any visit to this city memorable.

San Francisco has two major airports – the San Francisco International Airport and Oakland International. BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) runs train service from the airport to various stops around downtown San Francisco. Rates are very reasonable and cost much less than taxi or shuttle service. Trains leave every 15 minutes. SFO Airporter buses are also available outside baggage-claim to downtown San Francisco every 30 minutes. SupperShuttle ( and various private shuttle and taxi services are available as well.

Taxi service is available in San Francisco, but they will need to be called. Companies that offer transportation include Veteran’s Cab, Luxor Cabs, and Yellow Cab.

The Golden Gate Ferry Service offers transportation between the San Francisco Ferry building to downtown Sausalito and Larkspur. The ride is 30 minutes and rates are reasonable considering the view and the experience. Family rates are available on weekends.

The San Francisco Municipal Railway (known as “Muni”), runs the city cable cars, buses and streetcars. To use all of these transportation options, the best bet is to buy Passports, which entitle riders to unlimited trips on the bus, streetcars and cable cars.
